Family Holidays in France

Family holidays in France have been enjoyed by the British for generations., as not only is France our nearest neighbour geographically, but also acts as a gateway to much of Europe. Despite the ever increasing availability of cheap flights and package holidays to more exotic destinations France remains a very popular choice for family holidays, and this is surely testament to its appeal.

As a holiday destination France is enjoyed by a very wide audience, but what makes it so ideal for families? France is a country of great contrasts and this is reflected in the choice of holidays on offer.

In the summer you can take a beach holiday in one of the resorts on the Mediterranean or Atlantic coasts that will rival any holiday in Spain or Italy, and if you're considering a family beach holiday in France it's worth looking at Corsica, which is renowned for having some of the best beaches in Europe. Although slightly less accessible Corsica provides a more tranquil beach holiday than you will find on the mainland.

Although there are plenty of beautiful beaches and traditional summer attractions in France there is also a wealth of family orientated activities that will appeal to active families. If you're adventurous you might consider a self drive holiday to France, which will allow your family to explore more than would be possible if you opted for a resort based holiday.

Camping is a massive industry in France and in addition to caravan parcs that let you take your own touring caravan there are literally hundreds offering luxury mobile homes with fantastic on-site facilities. These camp sites are really fully blown holiday villages with pool complexes, restaurants and bars. Many have childrens clubs with supervised activities, allowing parents to have a bit of quality time to themselves. Some parcs even offer additional activities such as horse riding, paintballing, rock climbing and white water rafting! Naturally, once your active day is over there's plenty to do in the evenings, whether it's enjoying the on-site entertainment or venturing further afield to explore the local nightlife.

No rundown of family holidays in France would be complete without mention of Disneyland Resort Paris. Having celebrated it's 15^th year last year Disneyland Paris continues to delight both young and old, bringing the magic closer to home than ever! Why travel all the way to Florida for the Disney experience when Disneyland Paris is so easily accessible by cheap flights or Eurostar?

After the kids have had their Disney fix there could still be time for Mum and Dad to do a whistlestop tour of the famous Paris landmarks, or even take the opportunity to show that education can be fun by taking the kids to a some of Paris' excellent galleries and museums!

Disneyland Paris isn't the only family theme park that France has to offer. Puydufou, located in the Vendee, is an amusement park, art museum and shopping mall all rolled into one! This unmistakably French theme park is celebrating 30 years of existence and not only includes enormous rides that'll make you scream for more, but provides a great souvenir shopping opportunity!

In the Alps active families can enjoy walking holidays in the summer and family ski holidays in the winter. If you enjoy watersports then don't think you're limited to a beach holiday – your family can enjoy canoeing in the Loire Valley or take a boating holiday on Frances inland waterways.

Families looking to enrich their children's education can explore the prehistoric sites of Brittany or the fortified towns of the South West of France.
